AVG LinkScanner est conçu pour tester le niveau de sécurité des liens obtenus après une recherche sur Google, Yahoo! ou MSN Search pour vous protéger des sites web contrefaits, louches ou potentiellement dangereux qui foisonnent sur la Toile.

AVG LinkScanner se présente sous la forme d'une barre d'outils intégrée à Internet Explorer et/ou à Firefox.

Cette barre comprend deux modules: Search-Shield et Surf-Shield, que vous pouvez activer et désactiver à tout moment.

Search-Shield indique le degré de fiabilité des liens listés à l'aide d'icônes très explicites (de vert à rouge). En passant la souris sur une icône, vous obtenez davantage d'informations sur le site concerné: adresse IP, type de menace éventuel (phishing, exploits, etc.).

Si vous cliquez sur un lien signalé comme "à risque", AVG LinkScanner affiche un message d'avertissement avant son chargement. C'est le volet "Surf-Shield". Vous pouvez alors choisir de revenir à la page de résultats ou bien d'entrer quand même sur le site signalé à vos risques et périls.

Utile et léger, AVG LinkScanner est conseillé pour combler certaines lacunes de votre anti-virus en matière de protection contre les sites dangereux. Notez par ailleurs qu'il est inclus dans AVG Anti-Virus.

Accessible à tous, ShootMania Storm est un jeu de tir à la première personne MMO futuriste. Le FPS de Nadeo possède de nombreux traits communs avec Trackmania, l'autre bombe du studio: un plaisir de jeu immédiat et des parties qui s'enchaînent très rapidement.

Là où la plupart des FPS vous proposent un choix interminable de classes et d'armes avant même d'avoir tiré votre première cartouche, ShootMania Storm emprunte le chemin opposé et se présente comme un FPS accessible à tous. Une seule arme à feu, 2 persos au choix, pas plus de 4 tirs en 4 secondes: l'éditeur Nadeo soutient que cette série de mesures devrait niveler le niveau des joueurs pour laisser une chance aux débutants.

ShootMania Storm propose plusieurs modes de jeu et les "maps" de cette Open Bêta sont plutôt réussies. Le choix du serveur ne devrait pas poser de problème aux débutants. Nous voici sur le champ de bataille: aux côtés de vos compagnons d'armes, vous évoluez entre ruines médiévales et structures futuristes.

La prise en main de ShootMania Storm est certes facile mais cela ne vous empêchera pas de vous faire tuer des dizaines de fois lors des premières parties. Heureusement, le système de "respawn" est extrêmement efficace et, 5 secondes après votre mort, vous êtes déjà de retour dans l'arène.

Muni de votre lance-roquette futuriste, la seule différence entre vous et votre adversaire est donc la dextérité. Un bon point pour ShootMania Storm qui apporte un peu plus de justice dans ce monde de FPS brutaux.

ShootMania Storm est un jeu de tir à la première personne particulièrement adapté aux débutants. On a parfois l'impression de rejouer à une version de Quake simplifiée, les meilleures "maps" en plus. On peut d'ailleurs s'attendre à ce que, comme pour Trackmania, la communauté des joueurs magnifie ce FPS avec de nouveaux modes de jeu et des milliers de cartes innovantes.

ShootMania Storm fait la part belle à la rapidité et au plaisir de jeu immédiat. Néanmoins, on voit mal les fans de Call of Duty ou de Battlefield laisser tomber leur FPS favori pour un gameplay aussi sommaire.

La bande passante, plus réduite qu'un accès normal, peut néanmoins entraîner des ralentissements ou gêner la lecture de certains programmes.

Hotspot Shield ne requiert aucun paramétrage. Une icône dans la zone de notification système permet d'amorcer ou d'interrompre la connexion sécurisée en un clic. Seule contrepartie pour ce service, les pages web affichées contiennent toutes un bandeau de publicité supplémentaire en tête de page.

Efficace et simple à mettre en ?uvre, Hotspot Shield est une solution intéressante pour sécuriser votre connexion Internet, surtout depuis un réseau WiFi public.

avast! Antivirus Gratuit Béta est la dernière version en date de cet antivirus réputé. Au menu: adoption d'une nouvelle interface, ajout de quelques fonctionnalités avancées mais peu de nouveautés quant au moteur de détection.

La procédure d'installation d'avast! Free Antivirus a été simplifiée et le nouvel aspect graphique de la suite facilite encore un peu plus la prise en main du logiciel.

Le nouveau menu d'accueil de avast! 8 vous permet de contrôler en un clin d??il si votre PC est correctement protégé. Dans le cas contraire, vous pouvez facilement accéder aux fonctions de scan, aux statistiques d'utilisation ainsi qu'aux nouveaux modules AccessAnywhere - un système de bureau à distance - Software Updater et Browser Cleanup.

Mise à jour systématique des logiciels importants

Software Updater vérifie s'il existe des mises à jour plus récentes pour les logiciels installés sur votre machine. Ainsi, les logiciels non mis à jour ne constituent plus une faille de sécurité potentielle.

En cas de mise à jour critique, une fenêtre intempestive apparaît à l'écran. Il suffit alors de cliquer pour lancer l'installation qui s'effectuera en arrière plan.

Suppression des barres d'outils et des plugins dangereux

Le Browser Cleanup de avast! 8 est l'autre grande nouveauté: le module détecte la présence de toolbars ou de plugins indésirables et les élimine. Cela fonctionne avec Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox et Google Chrome.

Chaque module de avast! Antivirus Gratuit Béta est noté par les utilisateurs sur une échelle de 1 à 5 étoiles. Il vous est même possible d'activer ou de désactiver les add-ons un à un.

En ce qui concerne les toolbars, un rapport vous présente celles qui peuvent potentiellement être dangereuses. Il vous est ensuite possible de les supprimer.

On ne change pas une équipe qui gagne

Hormis ces changements, avast! 8 Béta présente les mêmes caractéristiques que les versions précédentes: un moteur de détection rapide, capable d'intercepter les virus et les malwares, le module WebRep qui vous informe de la réputation des sites Web, AutoSandBox pour isoler les processus suspects dans une zone de quarantaine, une liste noire personnalisable, le contrôle à distance et plus généralement, les 8 boucliers de protection en temps réel.

Partiellement traduite en français, la bêta de avast! Antivirus Gratuit 8 fait peau neuve avec une nouvelle interface et propose de nouvelles fonctionnalités intéressantes (Software Updater, Browser Cleanup et AccessAnyWhere). Les fondamentaux restent les mêmes et on note peu de changements au niveau du moteur de détection.

Telecharger Folder Size 2.6 Gratuit Pour connaître la taille d'un dossier sur Windows, il faut obligatoirement passer par ses propriétés, accessibles par clic droit. Avec Folder Size, oubliez cette opération contraignante.

Cet utilitaire gratuit et Open Source permet d'afficher la taille des dossiers directement dans l'explorateur de fichiers. Il ajoute une colonne de plus dans la vue "Détails" de l'explorateur.

Pour l'activer, cliquez avec le bouton droit de la souris en haut d'une colonne et cochez l'élément "Taille de Dossier". Effectuez la même man?uvre pour désactiver l'élément "Taille" d'origine qui n'est plus d'aucune utilité.

Pour conserver vos réglages et bénéficier de l'affichage de la taille des dossiers dans toutes vos fenêtres, allez dans le menu "Outils", puis "Options des dossiers". Dans l'onglet "Affichage", cliquez sur "Appliquer à tous les dossiers".

Folder Size ne possède pas d'interface propre ou de réglages mais vous pouvez le désinstaller comme tout autre programme depuis le panneau de configuration.

Simple et pratique, Folder Size est un complément intéressant pour l'explorateur de fichiers.

PhraseExpress est un programme intelligent pour aider les rédacteurs/journalistes/écrivains pressés. Si vous êtes las de toujours taper les mêmes expressions à longueur de journée, ce petit logiciel génial vous facilite la vie.

Le principe est simple: remplacer les expressions récurrentes par des raccourcis clavier. Plutôt que de taper la salutation "Veuillez agréer l'expression de mes sentiments distingués", vous ne tapez que le code "sal", pour que le reste de la formulation s'écrive automatiquement.

A vous de choisir la formulation et son code associé. Vous pouvez ainsi entrer en mémoire tous les mots, groupes de mots et expressions qui vous semblent nécessaires et que vous utilisez fréquemment.

Le logiciel est plutôt simple d'accès. On dispose d'onglets pour naviguer dans l'interface. Le premier offre la bibliothèque d'expressions et les raccourcis associés. A vous de la configurer selon vos préférences. Le programme apporte par défaut sa propre base de données, malheureusement en anglais.

L'option de "Settings" permet de configurer plus en profondeur le logiciel et les macros, alors que l'option statistiques offre quelques données d'analyse rudimentaires: nombre de mots, rythme de frappe, etc.

PhraseExpress se loge dans le systray et reste discrètement en éveil durant la journée. Il permet de corriger les coquilles fréquentes ("els" pour "les", etc.) mais sert aussi de lanceur d'applications. Vous pouvez le configurer pour lancer un site internet d'une combinaison de touches par exemple.

Complet, discret et surtout gratuit, PhraseExpress offre une très bonne suite d'outils pour rendre votre quotidien plus productif. Indispensable.

Angry Birds Space intègre de nouveaux protagonistes en la personne de 6 nouveaux oiseaux dont 1 totalement inédit: Ice Bird, un oiseau qui glace la cible qu'il touche.

Red Bird, Lazer Bird, Bomb, Terence et Blue Birds ne sont que les nouvelles versions respectives des oiseaux rouge classique, jaune qui accélère, noir qui explose, gros qui fait plus de dégâts et bleu qui se sépare en trois mini projectiles.

Angry Birds Space a les arguments pour séduire un public aussi large que celui de ses prédécesseurs Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons et Angry Birds Rio. Difficile de prendre en main un nouveau gameplay mais on s'y fait rapidement. Du grand art signé Rovio.

Google Chrome Canary, c'est le tout dernier prototype de Google Chrome. Si vous souhaitez avoir un aperçu des tous derniers ajouts et des fonctionnalités futures du navigateur de Google, installez Chrome Canary.

Vous connaissez surement la version bêta ou la version développeur de Google Chrome, mais peut être pas la version Canary. Version plus récente de Google Chrome on ne peut pas... Cette version (elle correspond à la phase alpha / pre-alpha) particulière de Google Chrome s'installe indépendamment de la version stable de votre navigateur. Vous pouvez ainsi la tester en parallèle de l'utilisation de Google Chrome stable.

A noter que cette version est aussi la plus instable et que les plantages peuvent être fréquents lors de son utilisation. Les nouvelles versions de Canary sortent à un rythme journalier ou presque et ne sont pas testées avant d'être mis à disposition au téléchargement.

De nombreuses applications en réseau comme les jeux vidéo ou les logiciels peer-to-peer ne fonctionnent pas correctement à travers un routeur Internet et nécessitent des opérations souvent complexes pour y remédier. Grâce à une base de données de routeurs et d'applications, Simple Port Forwarding vous permet de modifier la configuration de votre routeur beaucoup plus simplement.

Il suffit de choisir votre routeur dans la fenêtre principale de Simple Port Forwarding et de sélectionner dans une liste les logiciels pour lesquels vous voulez ouvrir des ports. Vous pouvez enregistrer ensuite votre configuration dans un fichier texte pour la conserver.

Simple Port Forwarding est aussi capable de détecter automatiquement l'adresse IP de votre routeur, de modifier votre adresse IP en adresse statique et d'ajouter les ports des applications sélectionnées aux exceptions du pare-feu Windows.

A chaque démarrage, Simple Port Forwarding met à jour sa base de données de routeurs et d'applications, constamment actualisée par sa communauté d'utilisateurs. Si vous n'y trouvez pas votre bonheur, vous pouvez toujours ajouter des règles manuellement selon les ports utilisés par vos logiciels.

Avec Simple Port Forwarding, le paramétrage des routeurs est enfin à la portée de tous. A noter que Simple Port Forwarding est désormais décliné en version gratuite et pro, qui comprend plus de fonctions.

MEO Free Encryption Software is integrated into the Windows context menu, so to process files you can either right-click on them, or hit the Encrypt files button from within the interface itself. The app will then ask you to pick a few options, such as where you want the finished file to end up and how you would like to encrypt it. MEO Free Encryption Software only offers two options - fast, but less strong (Blowfish) or slow but strong (3-des).

The app also allows you to compress the file or folder you're about to encrypt, or to create a self-decrypting file (apparently, a password-protected .exe). In addition to these functions, MEO Free Encryption Software lets you validate hashes (to check that files have not been changed) and decrypt files as long as they are saved in .MEO or .CRY format.

Ultimately, if you do a lot of file encryption, or you're very serious about it, there are better programs than MEO Free Encryption Software - try PGP Desktop, for example. That said, MEO Free Encryption Software is compact, functional and free, and, especially if the recipient of the encrypted documents also has the app installed, it's an all-round good option.

MEO Free Encryption Software isn't fancy, but it does get a basic job done well - and for free!

modo has long been the application of choice for animation studios like Pixar Studios and Industrial Light and Magic. The latest update to modo improves upon an already amazingly powerful 3D animation tool.

One of the biggest complaints about the previous version, modo 501, was that character animation was noticeably absent. Luxology has addressed this complaint and have included character animations in modo 601. You can make static 3D models and flatten them for images or you can give life to your creations with the new character animation feature.

The features that made modo great are still here. The rendering engine is faster than ever, physics controls and fluid dynamics make your animations realistic, and the amazing Pixar subdivision surface modeling is still here, making your models much more efficient by reducing polygon count. If you are modeling people or animals, there is a new skin and hair shading and texture tool to make your characters photo-realistic.

modo also has a great community behind it that continue to develop kits for modo to expand its functionality and ease of use. Luxology also has a section on their site that allows uses to preview and purchase new kits.

Overall, its easy to see why modo 601 is the de facto 3D modeling application for professionals. Its ease of use and powerful feature set make it one of the best tools for artist and animators.

That?s really all there is to Tupsu. The object is to swing your monster from leaf to leaf and collect stars, without allowing him to plummet downwards. Levels get progressively more difficult as the game advances. Some levels are a little redundant, which might bore more hardcore puzzle players after awhile though.

Tupsu is another fun physics based puzzle game that?s easy to play but challenging to actually win.

The default Windows implementation of screensavers and wallpapers is decent. You can choose your own image folder to cycle through images. Windows 7 even rotates wallpapers for default themes. Splendid Desktop Helper wants to take these features a step further by dynamically loading images from the internet for your wallpaper and screensaver.

What ensues is a complete mess of an application. The images that Splendid Desktop Helper provides are inconsistent, with nature shots followed by scantily clad Asian girls to cute cat pictures. While the user can change the tags within Splendid Desktop Helper, there is no indication of where the app is pulling images. Thankfully, you can use your own images but that's a feature that Windows already has.

The only redeeming quality is that you can set a password for Splendid Desktop Helper. Waking a computer from the screensaver will launch a password prompt before allowing the user to log in.

Overall, Splended Desktop Helper makes a mess of managing and controlling Windows wallpapers and screensavers.

At the start, it is a little difficult to see what parts of the environment are interactive because everything is blended together. Lilly Looking Through offers a hint button to help solve puzzles, though it does not give the exact answer.

Some puzzles can take a little more problem solving, but the game does not present puzzles that are overly complicated. Playing Lilly Looking Through is an impressive gameplay experience because it never gets boring.

Lilly Looking Through is a great point-and-click adventure perfectly presented as an interactive animated movie.

RemoveIT is a free trojan, adware and spyware scanner that searches and destroys dangerous viruses, trojans and spyware.

However, the effectiveness of RemoveIT is open to debate. The developers claim that it's so good, it "locates and removes many new dangerous files including spyware, malware, virus, worms, trojans and adware that other popular AV programs do not find." RemoveIT therefore is NOT a real-time scanner - it's based on cleaning-up after something has installed itself on your PC rather than real-time protection which I always think is a dangerous approach.

There's nothing flashy about RemoveIT - the interface is based on Windows Explorer shell which also includes a slightly more advanced and expanded version of Windows Task Manager (to stop and block illegal processes) and the same with a Service Manager which gives you an overview of the services and program currently running on your PC. With RemoveIT's tools, you have more control over what runs on your PC both during startup and day-to-day operation. The Services Manager in RemoveIT is recommended for beginners as you can see clearly the actual names of the programs running while the Process Manager only shows those files that are running as parts of programs and as a result, you may shut something down that you didn't mean to.

For a free and light malware scanner, RemoveIT is a solid program although it does not seem to detect anything that other scanners (such as Ad-Aware) can't so it's maybe not as effective as the developers claim.

Scribus is a free open-source desktop publishing program that works across platforms and offers some impressive powerful features.

Although it's completely free, Scribus offers some serious publishing power including support for CMYK color, separations, ICC color management and versatile PDF creation. Although the interface isn't as slick as it could be, Scribus works across platforms so it hasn't been designed with any one particular operating system in mind.

One thing that isn't so easy to master on Scribus is formatting. You may encounter several formatting issues when importing text as everything has to be done manually. Even just changing fonts doesn't happen in real time - you have to change them and preview how they will look in another window. You can however drag and drop elements with ease as well as export documents in EPS, SVG and PDF format. Importing PDF and EPS isn't so easy however - you need GhostScript to do so and this isn't easy for beginners to scripting.

Scribus has a lot of potential although its certainly not a patch on a Quark and can be very unintuitive to use at times.

Overall, Perfect Effects Free is a great program with great default filters and controls to make your photos more interesting.

PNotes is highly customizable, flexible and free sticky note software that will allow you to keep your tasks and to-dos visible and on-schedule.

If you have ever used a real sticky note, you'll get the idea behind PNotes. If you have an appointment to remember, something to buy, a person to email or even a new word to learn, just jot it down and stick it somewhere visible, or, in the case of PNotes, on your computer screen.

PNotes' strongest point is undoubtedly its organizational and customization options. Each note can be tweaked - you can change the font, color, transparency and size - and notes in general can be scheduled, skinned, docked, password protected and even encrypted.

All of these options can be modified under Preferences, while most note actions will be accessed via the PNotes icon in the taskbar. Double clicking will create a new note, and right-clicking will give you access to all of the program's options, including a Control Panel, which is perfect for the management of large numbers of notes.

PNotes also stands out for its organizational capabilities. You can group them, assign certain notes as favorites, mark in order of priority and even search notes by name or content. As you can schedule notes to appear only when you need them, you don't even have to clutter up your screen with multiple notes - a definite advantage over the paper kind.

PNotes might just be the perfect sticky note application.

Moon Breakers is an online multiplayer space shooter, where two teams of pilots fight each other in space among giant asteroids. It's free to play, and features RPG like leveling, so the more experience you get the better abilities you will have.

Moon Breakers begins with two base ships, Government and Pirates, and a field of asteroids separating them. There up to 32 players in a game, so it always feels pretty busy. Controls are easy to learn, and while your first couple of games might be frustrating as you learn how to play, you should soon get to grips with it and start racking up kills.

You can buy new ships and ship upgrades with real money, or with credits earned in the game. As is common with free to play games, getting credits from gameplay takes time. Ship upgrades are reasonably priced, but buying a new ship with credits will take a long time. The graphics are functional, with colored ship trails that help you pick out enemies in space, but it all looks a bit 'last generation' in terms of presentation.

Moon Breakers also lacks any back story to make you really interested, beyond 'pirates versus government'. The RPG element of Moon Breakers has too much effect - action games need to reward skill first, and achievements second. But in this game, however good you are, it feels like you can't succeed unless you put the hours of grind in to get credit and upgrade your ships (or just buy them).

Moon Breakers is fun for a while if you like online multiplayer shooters. It needs more character and better gameplay balancing to make you want keep coming back.

HyperCam is an app that allows you to video capture the action from an area of your PC desktop.

If you've ever wanted to make a screencast showing people how to do something, or just video what's happening on your screen, you'll need a screen capture tool like HyperCam. Simply install the application and you can start recording a portion or all of the action on your screen. There are record and play buttons on the HyperCam interface, of you can activate it via configurable hotkeys. Depending on what you need, you can specify a framerate, and highlight mouse clicks with a flash in the recorded video.

While HyperCam does do what it claims, it's not a very well designed program. You may find that video you record plays back at double the speed it should, without reason. Sound recording is also unreliable - on our Windows 7 systems, we were unable to record any sound, from music players, video files or browser video. We also found HyperCam to be a little unstable, and were disappointed that the default installation process doesn't put the app in your standard Program Files folder.

There are better screencapture tools around, like Fraps that are much more modern and better designed. HyperCam is a basic application that is in real need of a new version!

Flash animation is a technology that can all to easily be abused and there are numerous examples throughout the web where it has been used without justification resulting in non-accessible pages, annoying animations or amateurish-looking sites. On the other hand, when used correctly, Flash can add another dimension to your site, setting it apart from the masses and really giving the user a rounded and fulfilling experience. Text-Osterone is a library of text effects that you can easily configure much in the same way as the various transition effects of Microsoft PowerPoint.

The multitude of options may be daunting for inexperienced users but in reality the majority are non-essential and will only be called to action if a very particular result is sought. Thanks to an automatically refreshing preview window, each change you make can be checked before exporting and as a consequence the process of trial and error is much speedier.

The cracks begin to show however after you?ve checked out a few of the available effects. Since many of them are basic it seems like overkill to have a separate program to take care of them and would make more sense to get a copy of Flash Professional and build them from scratch. What?s more Text-Osterone, as the name suggests, has been designed to deal with text only. No options exist to work with basic shape animations, which might be handy if you want a corporate logo to feature.

Text-Osterone is a program that has been designed for those who have no experience whatsoever with Flash and as a result will more than likely produce substandard pages. As such, beginners can get a feel of what is possible and of course add more than just plain test to their site. It makes a good toy for those with curiosity but should not be used in an advanced setting.

Garena currently supports quite a limited number of games but does include some major titles such as Age of Empires I and II, Battlefield 2, Bordelands, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 1 and 2, Call Of Duty: World At War, Counter Strike: Source, Call Of Duty 2, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, Red Alert 3, Starcraft, Team Fortress 2 and Warcraft 3.

When you download and install Garena, you have to create and account to log into the Garena network. You will be assigned an avatar that will identify you within the Garena community. You can instantly see who is online and which players are at a similar ability to you. Garena seems somewhat more focused on some games more than others though e.g. World of Warcraft 3, for which there is even an online video channel and high-level championship mode.

To communicate with other gamers, Garena has its own Instant Messaging and internal mail system and forums to discuss gaming issues. There's also a points system for those users with more experience and forum activity.

Garena isn't compatible with enough major titles but for those it does work with, it's a simple way of finding like-minded gamers.

AOL has been on the internet just about as long as I can remember so you'd expect AIM to be a pretty decent instant messenger. However, the proof is in the pudding. Nowadays, MSN Messenger and Skype users far outnumber AIM users which shows that at the nd of the day, it's not one of the heavy hitters. AIM was, however, one of the first to incorporate voice, video and desktop-to-mobile messaging and so should at least be given credit for pioneering this technology.

The instant messaging list on AIM has space for 500 friends and enables you to organize your chats and status messages easily. It also allows you to send bigger files than most IM services. AIM's video conferencing function is however much more hassle and it's not immediately obviously how to start a conference until you scroll through the menus. AIM also features it's own e-mail service although obviously, you need to sign up for an AOL account to use it which can turn into a long drawn out affair in itself.

There's no real advantage of using AOL's IM mail compared to others apart from the fact that it does feature a handy "unsend" function if you've sent an e-mail in error. Of course, there's the obligatory SMS function although this is limited to US users and if your phone supports it, you can also use AOL messenger on the move.

AIM is a bit of a disappointing effort from one of the originators of Instant Messaging but still has a few redeeming features that make it worth a try.

BreakTaker is a very simple application with only a few options to adjust. You can change how many minutes pass before the next alert, enable/disable sounds, and choose whether to pause the timer when the PC is locked.

While BreakTaker does provide reminders to take breaks, there's no option to make sure that the user takes his or her break. We would like to see an option where the user can be locked out until a certain amount of time has passed. Without this, it is very easy for the user to ignore BreakTaker's notification.

BreakTaker is good for giving users a simple pop-up reminder to take breaks, but there aren't enough advanced features to make sure that users don't ignore the application.

For example, Orion File Recovery Software will search for music, pictures, documents and other file types, whether or not you can remember the file name.

Speed and results

Depending on the size of the drive you've selected to search, Orion File Recovery Software could take a longer or shorter time to find what you're looking for. When we used it, though, it was pretty speedy, and displays all its results in a very clear grid format. From here, you can either recover the file or erase it beyond recovery, and handy security feature.

The verdict

File recovery apps are hit and miss and success depends on a lot of factors. Orion File Recovery Software is no exception, but in general we found the results - especially for a free app - very promising. It can't guarantee that you'll get back what you're looking for, but it's an excellent first place to start.

You've also got the option to export via the program interface or via the command line. There are also possibilities to specify the number of database records to be copied into one line - thus, if you specify 3 and database record count is 24, then the database will be copied into 8 lines. There are also several useful functions for data manipulating and bookmarking.

For those that work regularly with tables and formulas and find that Windows clipboard is not sufficient, Exportizer is a quality solution.

There are options to view a program's folder, website, and even to Google search a program if you don't remember what it is. There is also support for a plethora of languages.

Overall, GeekUninstaller is an impressive maintenance tool that delivers on both performance and features. Highly recommended.

Kodak Easyshare is software to organize, view and edit your photos - whether or not you have a Kodak camera.

Kodak Easyshare includes pretty much all the tools you would expect from a photo manager, such as being able to organize photos in albums, adding tags, retouching images that need a bit of optimization and sharing them. You can choose between burning them to a CD or DVD, emailing them, uploading them to the Kodak Gallery and publishing them on Flickr or Facebook.

While Kodak Easyshare seems quite good at photo sharing, we found it a bit limited as photo manager. The range of tools is fine, but not spectacular and definitely not better than other similar apps. The program's interface design doesn't help either: it's confusing and even a bit messy. The app also seemed to take up an inordinate amount of memory, and as a result could be a sluggish and buggy.

You can use Kodak Easyshare without actually having a Kodak account, however you'll find many places in the application where it encourages you to do so. Not having a Kodak Easyshare account will in any case limit your use of the application, as you won't be able to order printed copies of your photos or create projects.

Kodak Easyshare is a digital photo organizer that includes a bunch of tools to manage and edit photos. It might be worth a look if you've already got a Kodak account, but in the rest of cases, we'd advise you to look elsewhere.

Although GizmoRip is a pretty solid program with a sleek but simple interface, the app can't always find your Apple device. If this is the case, unplug it from your PC, then try plugging it in again. The process can be frustrating though, to say the least.

The trial version of this app limits users to 10 tracks per batch transfer.

GizmoRip is a great tool to recover music off your iPod, iPad and iPhone in the event of a PC hard drive crash.

QQ Messenger may not sound familiar, but it's the most popular IM client in China.

When you think about IM clients, the first names that come to your head are Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger and the likes. But have you ever heard of QQ Messenger?

With more than one billion registered accounts, QQ Messenger is now more than just a simple IM client: it's a whole social phenomenon that millions of people use on a daily basis, and an essential part of their lives.

The truth is that QQ Messenger is not that different from other IM clients you may have used. There are the typical contacts list ? which you can organize by groups - support for voice and video chats, smileys, nudges, ability to send photos and share files (with support for pause/resume!), and other utilities we're used to finding in IM clients. There's one important difference however: in QQ Messenger you hardly find any ads!

Besides the traditional IM tools, QQ Messenger also includes some not-so-common features. You'll be able to capture an area of your screen or record a short video clip on the spot, and share both of them instantly with your contacts. Another area where QQ Messenger stands out is personalization. You can customize almost anything, from choosing a skin for the interface to selecting the font for your messages. The program also includes a wide selection of avatars and personal pictures to choose from, but if you don't like any of them, simply upload one from your hard drive. The only thing that didn't work for us was downloading more themes from the Web.

QQ Messenger is mainly a tool for chat, but it can also be used to help your friends or customers thanks to its integrated Remote assistance tool: a basic remote control app that grants you access to your friend's desktop and enables you to help them with any computer issue.

In general terms, QQ Messenger surprised us for various reasons: first, it features a nicely designed interface with cute buttons and icons, which is hard to find in IM clients; second, it has interesting extra features that make it a complete communication tool; and third, it's amazing how such a popular program with more than a billion users is still known by so few people over here!

On the downside, I have to admit that QQ Messenger was a bit unreliable when trying to add contacts - which, by the way, are identified with numbers, like good old ICQ. Not a very user-friendly method, I'd say. Other than that, QQ Messenger is a great IM cilent that is definitely worth trying out.

QQ Messenger, the most widely used IM client in China, has now an international version that may help it become even more popular!

OneLoupe is a digital rectangular lens to zoom in on anything that appears on your screen. The only way you can open this program is by clicking on the icon in the system tray. Once you have done that you can move the lens around and, by turning the mouse?s scroll wheel, zoom in and out up to 9X.

The application is extremely light and can be useful for everyone, not just for people with sight problems. There are two major weak points I?ve noticed, though. One is that you can?t launch the program by simply pressing a combination of keys or with the right click button of the mouse. The other is that when zooming in, the application doesn?t even try to recalculate what?s displayed and both text and images become highly pixilated. Especially with texts, I don?t think it would have been a very difficult algorithm to implement.

While the lens is on, if you press the ?b? key, the program copies what?s being magnified to the clipboard. This is a useful and time-saving function, especially for presentations or whenever you need a visual example of what you are talking about.

OneLoupe can open a digital lens to zoom in on a text or a picture and paste what?s spotlighted in the clipboard with just one click.

eXceed 2nd ? Vampire REX is a vertical scrolling shoot 'em up (shmup). It's a 'bullet hell ' shmup - the sub genre that fills the screen with bullets, so players have to quickly weave around them while shooting enemies themselves.

The back story of eXceed 2nd ? Vampire REX is surprisingly complex, but all gamers really need to know is how it plays. This is a fast shoot 'em up, an features the 'polarity' mechanic: you can alternate your polarity during the game, switching between two colors. You absorb bullets of the same color, only having to avoid those of the other. Absorbing bullets charges your special weapon.

Unlike most Shmups, you control not a spaceship, but a character, Ria Fyle a half-human half-vampire girl. eXceed 2nd ? Vampire REX is a Manga style game, and the graphics are bright and cartoon-like. This game is a few years old, and it shows, but it's still very playable and smooth.

eXceed 2nd ? Vampire REX is a tough game, even on the easiest setting. You get three continues, but you can easily use them! There are eight levels, and while that sounds like a small number, it really is enough. Games like this are meant to be played, then played again until you get the best performance you can manage. Hard mode in eXceed 2nd ? Vampire REX really is very tough!

I'd recommend trying the demo for eXceed 2nd ? Vampire REX, to see if it's for you. As as shoot 'em up it's good, and offers an excellent challenge to fans.
