Kindle for Windows 8 is an app that allows you to download, read, and annotate books from your Kindle library.
Amazon's excellent Kindle service makes it to Windows 8 with the Kindle app. If you've used the Kindle app on other devices, you'll feel at home immediately. The interface follows the guidelines of Windows 8 apps so you can swipe from right to left to access all of your books from the cloud. Each book has beautiful art and has a little cloud icon next to it, which you can tap to start downloading it to your device.
The Kindle app gives users a great reading experience. You'll have the ability to choose between reading black text on a white background, white text on a black background, or sepia. Fonts and font sizes can be altered to suit your reading. Page numbers and status are located at the bottom of the page as well.
What make the Kindle app and ecosystem so great is Whispersync, Amazon's cloud syncing service. All of your books, bookmarks, notes, and highlights will be synced between devices so you can pick up where you left off on any device that supports the Kindle app.
There are a few quirks that Amazon needs to hammer out. Comics wouldn't download and gave a cryptic error message. While you can buy Kindle books, you'll be doing so in the browser as the store isn't integrated into the Kindle application.
Yet with these flaws, the Kindle app for Windows 8 provides a solid ebook reading experience, whether using a tablet or desktop computer.
